Alternate
Side Parking Rules Suspension Calendar
Mayor
Michael R. Bloomberg and the New York City
Department of Transportation Commissioner
announce the 2010 Alternate Side
Parking Rules Suspension Calendar.
The City suspends alternate side parking regulations,
for both street cleaning purposes and traffic flow, on
the legal and religious holidays listed above. This
includes suspension of street cleaning regulations at
metered spaces.
The City policy was developed jointly by the
Department of Transportation, the Police Department
and the Department of Sanitation.
Alternate Side Parking Regulations may be changed from
time to time because of snow emergencies, inclement weather conditions or other
emergencies. In these circumstances, the information is provided to the news
media. Call the New York City Call Center, 311, to obtain information on
emergency suspensions of the regulations.

Is it a Stroke?

Sometimes
symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately,
the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may
suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the
symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can
recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
*Ask the individual to smile.
*Ask him or her to raise both arms.
*Ask the person to speak a simple sentence.
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1
immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could
identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems,
researchers urged the general public to learn the three
questions. They presented their conclusions at the American
Stroke Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread
use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and
treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this article sends it
to 10 people, you can bet that at least one life will be
saved. Tell as many people as possible about this. It could
save their lives!

Disposal Of Appliances

If you dispose of any appliance containing CFCs
(refrigerators, air conditioners, water coolers,
dehumidifiers, etc.) the CFC gas must be removed before the
Department of Sanitation will pick it up. This is a federal
mandate. Call the Sanitation Action Center for an appointment.
The telephone number is 212-219-8090. They will give you a
date to place the appliance curbside for the removal of gas.
After it is removed, the appliance will be tagged CFC FREE.
Only tagged items will be collected from your curb.
THE TELEPHONE NUMBER TO REMEMBER IS 212-219-8090.
IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT BEFORE DISPOSING, REMOVE
ALL DOORS FROM REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS.
We do not want our children to climb into a refrigerator,
accidentally close the door, and smother because he or she is
unable to get out.
